Museum quality guangxu or republic period cloisonné enamel vase or brush washer. Black enamel between extremely fine worked copper wire with swastika motif. Inside and bottom blue enamelled. The base rim with incised four-character "Lao Tian Li Zhi" hall mark. Height 10,2 cm, Ø 15 cm. 654 grams.
Condition: This vase obviously never had gilded rims. There is a very small damage to the widest diameter (no dent!) which is also visible from inside (see pictures). The bottom shows loss of the enamel in opposite to the incised hall mark, probably from engraving the mark. Inside limescale. The copper did show some oxydation, that´s why it was poslished.
"Lao Tianli was a fine Chinese cloisonne craftsman, established in Beijing with his own studio from 1910 to 1930. In early 20th Century, Chinese cloisonne art first caught world-wide attention when a work by Lao Tianli won the top prize at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Exposition."(From article: "Cloisonne treasures shown in Beijing", CCTV.com, 04-28-2011.)
